Effect: every auto-speak stalls ~12 s, then speaks mechanical text. Secondary: the menu test-phrase path awaits the full sequential chain inside the command handler, tripping the harness 30 s handler-timeout toast. Tertiary: strict synth-play-synth sequencing leaves inter-segment gaps.
Fix plan: rewrite circuit breaker (skip humanize after repeated timeouts, cooldown, notify once), raise rewrite timeout moderately, fire-and-forget the menu test phrase, prefetch next segment during playback.

Merged via #33 (ec6a707) and pulled into the live checkout. The recurring handler-timeout logs were stale modules in sessions started before the segmentation fix landed (harness has no extension hot-reload; extension code is fixed at session start) plus the pre-#33 thinking bug. Sessions started before 02:00 PDT must be restarted to pick up the fix; sessions after get it fresh.
